China's National Bureau of Statistics said employment is broadly stable. The
urban surveyed unemployment rate rose seasonally to 5.3% in August, up 0.1
percentage point month-on-month; the Jan–Aug average was 5.2%, unchanged
year-on-year. In 31 major cities the urban surveyed unemployment rate was 5.3%,
up 0.1 percentage point from July. Unemployment among local
household-registration (hukou) workers was 5.3%; non-local (migrant)
household-registration workers 5.2%, including non-local agricultural-hukou
workers at 5.0%. Nationwide average weekly hours for enterprise employees were
48.2 hours.
