Yemeni security and intelligence analyst Mohammed Bashah stated that the Houthi rebels, allied with Iran, believe that resorting to force is the most effective way to exert maximum pressure and achieve their goals. Bashah said, “The Houthis want everything now. They want all of Yemen. They want recognition of their government status and control of resources, airspace, and seaports. Only then will they negotiate with other Yemeni parties. Ultimately, they want Saudi Arabia to recognize their legitimate government status.” Bashah added, “Even if the Houthis control the entire country, they will still seek billions of dollars in compensation and reconstruction from Saudi Arabia. Even if Saudi Arabia provides these funds, what guarantees that the Houthis won't demand additional funds or make further demands? This is the thorny situation Saudi Arabia is currently facing.” He further added, “I don't think Iran can completely control the situation. They may have advisors stationed locally and can pressure the Houthis or induce them to take certain actions. Iran created the Houthis we know today. But can the Houthis survive without Iran? Of course they can!”
