U.S. military destroyed two small Iranian boats on Monday after U.S. officials
said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used them to try to seize a U.S.
Navy unmanned surface vessel (USV) patrolling the Strait of Hormuz. The USV
fired two missiles, sinking the boats and killing most aboard; CENTCOM later
confirmed the attempted seizure and said the USV remains under U.S. operational
control. Iranian media described the targets as fishing boats and reported
strikes near Kangan and Larak Island in Hormozgan province; regional officials
attributed the attacks to U.S. forces. U.S. media reported the strikes were not
initially disclosed.
