A UN official responsible for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory
said on the 15th that about half of the remains recovered this month in Gaza
City were women and children. The official estimated at least 8,000 bodies
remain buried under rubble across Gaza and that full excavation could take more
than a decade. The official said Israel has been obstructing exhumation and
forensic identification efforts, increasing the difficulty of identification and
the risk of loss of evidence.
