At a Sept. 16 regular press briefing, Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu
Fenglian said Beijing welcomes Taiwanese public discussion of a Changhua Normal
University associate professor’s proposal to explore a "one country, two
systems" Taiwan plan. Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council said the mainland would
not accept any of the proposal’s conditions. Zhu called the trend toward
national reunification unstoppable, described peaceful reunification as a
blessing for the Chinese nation, and accused the DPP of placing pro‑independence
political interests above Taiwanese welfare and impeding cross‑strait exchanges.
