China Electricity Council (CEC) says year-to-date electricity consumption in the The country’s internet data services sector has topped 60 bln kWh, up more than 40% YoY as digital-energy loads including internet data and EV charging/battery-swap services surge. Rapid AI-driven expansion is pushing data-center power demand higher; daily token calls are about 1,000x compared with two years ago. CEC supervisory chairman Pan Yuelong projects annual incremental compute-related power demand above 100 bln kWh during the 15th Five-Year Plan, rising to roughly 800 bln kWh by 2030, or about 6% of national electricity consumption.
