KOSPI average daily turnover in September fell to 20.6 tln won (~$15bn), the
lowest in 2026 and less than half May–June peak levels, signaling waning
investor appetite that could make an AI-heavy market hard to retake prior highs.
Earlier this year retail buying on AI enthusiasm drove record gains, then doubts
about returns triggered a 22% selloff in July. The benchmark has since rebounded
but failed to hold the 7,000 level. Analyst Jason Minsang Kam said volatility
should ease, chip-cycle concerns should be resolved, and he expects the index to
trade in a range.
