China's foreign ministry on Sept. 16 said it noted an open letter from industry group Connect Europe and 17 European telco chiefs warn that the European Commission's proposed Cybersecurity Act revisions could force carriers to spend about €40bn on equipment replacement and, by some estimates, cost the EU more than €360bn over the next five years. Siebert Financial CIO Mark Malek said in a report that the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield rising to 5% is not due to a U.S.-specific economic problem but reflects a synchronized upswing in global bond yields. He noted Japan's 10-year yield has topped 3% for the first time in 30 years. Malek said: 'When long-term yields of all developed sovereigns reprice together, the market is not judging any single borrower; it is simply remembering what it has spent the past 15 years deliberately forgetting — that lending for ten years is a risk, not a convenience.'
