Trump said on Wednesday the EU allows Canada to become an associate member
could be a 'hostile act' and threatened to respond with higher tariffs on Europe
depending on EU leaders' intent. He said, 'If the intent is benign, that's fine;
if the intent is not benign, we'll impose very heavy tariffs on Europe.' He also
suggested the US could cut off some trade with Europe in certain areas, called
the prospect of Canada joining the EU 'ridiculous,' and labeled Canada a 'bad
trading partner.'
