China's acting deputy permanent representative to the UN, Sun Lei, said at a UN
Security Council public meeting on Afghanistan on the 16th that China urges the
international community to strengthen contact and dialogue with the Afghan
government. He said Afghanistan has been broadly stable over the past five years
but still faces complex challenges in humanitarian aid, development, women's
rights and counterterrorism, and called on parties to take a comprehensive,
objective view, value existing engagement, pursue patient, good-faith, pragmatic
communication that respects Afghanistan's national conditions and development
stage, and help facilitate its gradual reintegration into the international
community.
