Today (17th) Huaneng Changjiang Nuclear Phase II Unit 3, the Hainan Free Trade Port’s first Hualong One reactor, is set to begin commercial operation. The unit uses China’s domestically developed third‑generation Hualong One technology and the nation’s first fully domestically controlled, group‑level nuclear production management system. It will supply over 9 bln kWh of clean power to the Hainan grid annually. Phase II comprises two 1.2 GW units (Units 3 and 4); with both online annual output would reach about 18 bln kWh, meeting roughly one‑third of Hainan province’s electricity demand.
