Pakistan's army chief urged Iran to restrain Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and
cited Islamabad's mutual-defence agreement with Riyadh, people familiar with the
matter said. Pakistani officials asked Iran to warn the Houthis against further
escalation and said Pakistan could be compelled to defend Saudi Arabia if Riyadh
invokes the mutual-defence clause in last year's security pact. Iran's news
agency reported that Pakistan's de facto leader, Army Marshal Munir, visited
Tehran last month, met President Pezeshkian and other leaders, and held multiple
calls with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, most recently on Thursday. Sources
familiar with recent talks said Munir repeatedly requested Iranian help to stop
Houthi strikes on Saudi targets and energy infrastructure and referenced
Islamabad's commitments to Riyadh, but did not issue specific threats.
