According to Reuters, sources familiar with the matter say that Chinese chipmaker Changxin Memory is preparing to enter the booming flash memory chip market dominated by foreign rivals such as Samsung Electronics. Two sources said that Changxin Memory plans to establish a NAND flash memory R&D production line at its new Beijing factory. One source said the company has also set up a research institute in Beijing, where projects include NAND development. A third source said that Changxin Memory has discussed its NAND plans with customers, including a newly established startup that intends to purchase its NAND chips for storage products in AI systems and supercomputers, but declined to name the company. It is unclear when the R&D production line will begin operation, or whether Changxin Memory intends to move from R&D and pilot production to large-scale commercial manufacturing.
