At least two LNG cargoes transited the Strait of Hormuz this week, ship-tracking
data showed, as Persian Gulf producers seek to relieve a tight supply market.
One tanker that loaded at Qatar’s Ras Laffan at the end of August appeared in
the Gulf of Oman earlier this week, indicating it had passed the strait; the
vessel switched off AIS during transit, a common occurrence in the area that
complicates tracking. Persian Gulf exports had been almost halted since early
July after a Qatari tanker was attacked by Iran. The supply shortfall has pushed
spot LNG prices to their highest in more than three years and leaves further
upside risk into the northern hemisphere winter.
