Denmark and Greenland said on Saturday any agreement with the US will not
undermining Greenland’s sovereignty, responding to President Trump’s remark that
the deal would give Washington "permanent control" over the Arctic island's
security. On Friday the US, Denmark and Greenland said they had agreed the US
would expand a significant military presence in Greenland and bar US rivals from
establishing bases there. Denmark's foreign minister said a binding accord
expected next week would strengthen Arctic and North Atlantic security while
respecting Denmark's red lines; Greenland's prime minister said the deal
recognizes the kingdom's sovereignty and territorial integrity and Greenlanders'
right to self-determination and will aid shared security and national
development.
