[Institution: 250 Data Centers to be Built in the US, Potentially Powering Over Two-Fifths of Households] With the US midterm elections approaching, data centers have become a key issue. Data analysis by market intelligence firm Cleanview shows that, based on data centers typically operating at two-thirds capacity, the average new data center consumes enough energy to power 54,000 homes. The 250 data centers planned for construction in the coming years will increase the current 13,200 megawatts of capacity more than sevenfold, equivalent to enough to power at least two-fifths of American households. On average, the next generation of data centers is expected to consume 2.5 times the electricity of data centers operational by 2026.
