Al Jazeera reports a multinational naval coalition is preparing to deploy to the Red Sea under a unified command to protect shipping. Sultan Barakat of Hamad bin Khalifa University said the announced commitments will be tested and that similar Saudi-led coalition concepts have not formed in practice. He warned the force is unlikely to deploy unless Houthi militants stop attacking international shipping in the Red Sea. Barakat added the multinational model used for operations around Bab al-Mandeb cannot be replicated in the Strait of Hormuz because tensions involving Iran are more complex.
