Sept. 20 — China’s National Medical Products Administration deputy director Yang Sheng told a State Council press briefing the agency will implement drug trial data protection and establish market exclusivity periods for pediatric medicines and rare-disease treatments to better safeguard firms’ R&D investment. The NMPA will improve early-stage R&D communication, providing stronger pre-submission guidance for drugs with new targets or novel mechanisms. It will also expand a Spring Rain initiative to accelerate clinical translation of medical-device innovation and issue clinical trial and review guidance for frontier areas such as brain–computer interfaces to lay groundwork for future industry development.
