Pakistan negotiated with Iran to secure safe transit of a Qatar LNG cargo
through the Strait of Hormuz, easing near-term supply pressure for the
energy-strapped country, people familiar said. Ship-tracking data show the
tanker loaded at Qatar’s Ras Laffan in late June, transited the strait last
weekend and is signaling arrival at Pakistan’s import terminal on Tuesday; the
passage would be the second Qatar LNG delivery this month. Islamabad had been
prepared to tender if the cargo could not transit, but officials prefer a
successful delivery to avoid costlier spot-market purchases.
