Google launched a new laptop line, Googlebook, with a starting price of $899,
marking its push into the high-end laptop market aimed at Android phone users
and programmers. Google positions its Gemini AI assistant as a core part of the
device experience and is aiming to create a tighter laptop–phone ecosystem
comparable to the MacBook–iPhone integration. The $899 entry price undercuts the
MacBook Air’s $1,299 starting price. Google says Googlebook is not intended to
replace Chromebooks and is not positioned as a universal laptop for all users.
