MIIT-affiliated China Industrial Information News warned that recent calls to
'de-CATL-ize' the new-energy vehicle sector are being overplayed. Routine
supplier adjustments—diversifying vendors, adding suppliers, pursuing in-house
R&D—have been miscast as a confrontation between automakers and battery makers.
The outlet said the real issue is what form of industrial competition China’s EV
sector needs as it enters a high-quality growth phase, and cautioned against
rhetoric that artificially pits domestic leaders such as CATL against other
firms. Policy should support the emergence of more strong players while allowing
globally competitive incumbents to continue advancing, not weaken market leaders
for the sake of parity.
