US Secretary of State Rubio said the US will “never close the door to diplomacy”
with Iran, but that the core issue is Iran being controlled by clerics with
extreme religious and apocalyptic beliefs and “these people must never possess
nuclear weapons.” He added that sanctions are severely damaging Iran’s economy
and that US policy remains focused on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear
weapons while preserving diplomatic space.
