UN Secretary-General Guterres called for stronger international AI regulation
and an agreement on safety safeguards to prevent a dystopian outcome of
concentrated corporate power and the spread of 'killer robots'. He warned rapid
advances in frontier AI models could undermine state sovereignty as power shifts
from governments to a small number of private firms and individuals. Guterres
flagged the AI and data‑center race as a central driver of this shift and said
AI is evolving faster than our ability to grasp its full consequences. He urged
governments with the most advanced AI capabilities to shoulder greater
responsibility by establishing channels for dialogue, transparency, trust and
cooperation.
