According to Iran's Fars News Agency, a spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee stated that, based on new legal provisions concerning the Strait of Hormuz recently passed by the committee, violators illegally transiting the Strait of Hormuz will not only be subject to a fine equivalent to 20% of the value of their cargo, but will also face temporary impoundment of their vessels until the fine is paid in full.
The Iranian judiciary has been instructed to establish specialized courts, staffed with judges and experts familiar with maritime law and international law of the sea, to ensure strict enforcement of the law. Furthermore, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces will submit a report on the implementation of this law to the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee every three months, through the General Staff or the Ministry of Defense.
