Yemeni government forces said they reppelled a Houthi assault on the Kahbub
Mountains and have retaken large areas; the Houthis now hold only a few pockets
and have not commented, while fighting continues. The Kahbub Mountains lie
northeast of the Bab al-Mandeb and are a key high ground near the strait. Since
Sept. 3 the Houthis have launched an offensive, seized Yemen’s entire western
coast and deployed combat units attempting to take Kahbub, a move that would
further threaten government-held areas.
