China's UN ambassador Fu Cong told a UN Security Council open meeting on
Artificial Intelligence and International Security on the 23rd that states
should strengthen cooperation, balance development with security, and steer AI
toward positive, human‑benefiting uses to support global stability and
prosperity. He said states have the right to choose AI technologies, products
and services according to national needs and market rules, and called for
improving regulatory frameworks, emergency response and cross‑border cooperation
to manage AI‑driven risks and to crack down on terrorist, extremist and
transnational criminal misuse. He added AI is a common public good and should
not be confined to wealthy countries or actors.
