European electric vehicle sales rose over 50% YoY last month as surging fuel
prices prompted consumers to shift away from internal-combustion cars. EVs now
account for nearly one-third of sales on the continent. Luxury marques are
transitioning: Bentley launched its first battery-electric model. Fuel costs
have climbed this year amid the Ukraine war and a Gulf conflict, accelerating EV
adoption in other regions. In the US, the Trump administration has canceled
clean-energy tax incentives, but US EV sales are still expected to grow sharply.
South Africa, Africa’s largest vehicle producer, is accelerating a shift from
internal-combustion to electric-vehicle manufacturing.
