Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said on the 25th that AI is "powerful enough" to
trigger an event that could kill a billion people. In a segment on NBC's Meet
the Press he said no weapon has ever matched the threat posed by malicious
actors using the latest AI tools. Gates said self-regulation is insufficient and
called for law enforcement and policymakers to define mandatory safeguards and
oversight, adding this must be compulsory.
