On Sept. 25 in New York during the UN General Assembly, Vice President Han Zheng
met UN Secretary‑General Guterres and attended a China‑hosted high‑level
dialogue marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative
(GDI); he read a congratulatory letter from President Xi. Han reiterated China’s
long‑standing support for a UN‑centered multilateral system amid a turbulent
international environment, noting it is 55 years since the PRC regained its UN
seat. He said China will continue to act as a responsible major power, actively
align its initiatives with the UN agenda, and push the GDI from concept to
practical implementation to provide new development opportunities globally.
