US media report Boeing has identified a software defect in a 737 MAX cockpit
software update that can disable some autopilot/navigation functions,
potentially when crews change course after a missed approach. Boeing has
acknowledged the defect; it was not previously disclosed. In specific cases
pilots may need to fly manually with partial autopilot loss, raising safety
concerns during landing and increasing pilot workload in low-altitude,
high-demand situations such as adverse weather, industry sources said.
