Abbas Aslani, a senior fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies, said that diplomatic efforts continue despite the US rejection of Iran's proposal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. "The process is still ongoing," Aslani stated.
He noted, "In high-stakes diplomacy, you can hear different things from different platforms, especially with US President Trump, who contradicts himself in a very short time." Therefore, Iran is awaiting an official response through mediators.
Aslani stated that although the issue remains unresolved, diplomatic efforts in New York have "made some progress," with Iranian representatives, including President Pezechzian, attending the UN General Assembly. He said, "The question now is not whether Washington and Tehran are willing to negotiate, but who will give up their main bargaining chip first." "It's normal for both sides to issue public statements trying to pressure the other to make more concessions."
Aslani said there is still "some hope" as negotiations continue, but added, "We must be more patient and see what happens in the next few days."
