MIIT and six other ministries issued the new battery industry 15th Five-Year
Plan, prioritizing frontier and platform R&D, original innovation and disruptive
technology development. The plan mandates coordinated process innovation across
battery materials, cell/structural design, manufacturing and system integration
to raise intrinsic safety, energy and power density, structural strength and
weight reduction. It singles out ionic conductivity, cycle stability and cost
optimization as near-term priorities and directs accelerated efforts to
commercialize all-solid-state batteries. The plan also calls for forward
deployment of next‑generation systems including alkali-metal‑ion,
multivalent‑ion, metal‑air/sulfur, multifunctional composite structural
batteries and nuclear batteries.
