At a press conference on the 28th, Social Democratic leader Andersson said an
attempt to form a new government had failed. Sweden held a parliamentary
election in early September; opposition parties defeated the incumbent
Kristersson-led Moderate government and won a majority. The Riksdag speaker had
tasked the Social Democrats and Andersson with trying to form a government.
