McKinsey said in a report on Tuesday that AI could require about 11 mln US
workers—roughly 7% of the current workforce—to change occupations by 2035. The
firm said AI may create more jobs than it displaces, but the transition will be
painful: the annual number of US workers switching occupations (historically
about 215,000) could double over the next decade. McKinsey estimates around six
in seven affected workers will need substantial retraining and face risks of
lower earnings.
