[Najaf Governor Denies Ordering Suspension of Iranian Flights] According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Najaf Governor Youssef Maki Qanawi stated that the order to suspend Iranian flights to Najaf Airport was not issued by him. He pointed out that, according to law, a governor has no authority to issue such orders. He emphasized that he never ordered the suspension of operations or the closure of Najaf Airport. Previously, on Friday, September 25, the Najaf International Airport administration announced that, following the US Treasury Department's sanctions against Iran, and based on instructions from relevant authorities, all flights to and from Iran were suspended from Friday morning until further notice. The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority had also previously announced that Baghdad Airport had stopped accepting flights from Iranian airlines.
