Semafor reports Senate Commerce Committee Chair Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Sen. Amy
Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said bipartisan negotiations on AI safety have stalled and
the committee will not take action before the election. Klobuchar said she is
still consulting with Republican senators and hopes to pass strong AI safety
safeguards by year-end, but it remains unclear whether a bipartisan bill can be
produced before the election. Cruz said passage is possible but no decision has
been made.
