China’s General Office of the CPC Central Committee and General Office of the
State Council issued a 15th Five-Year Plan for cultural heritage protection and
inherit and instruct local authorities and departments to implement it.
The plan sets targets to 2030: complete a national inventory of cultural
heritage resources; basically sort out oversight structures; strengthen legal
and regulatory frameworks; expand professional talent; improve protection
inspections; and establish an integrated national cultural heritage protection
system that reinforces heritage’s role in building a socialist cultural power.
Key tasks include building the integrated protection framework; raising
protection standards for immovable cultural relics; advancing archaeology and
historical research; strengthening movable relics protection and museum
management; protecting historic cities, neighborhoods and villages while
promoting living transmission; safeguarding intangible cultural heritage;
advancing construction and protection of national cultural parks; boosting
heritage governance capacity; and enhancing education, technology and talent
support and international cooperation.
