The Bank of England warned in its quarterly Financial Stability Report that AI valuations remain at risk of a sharper correction than in July, and that such a collapse could have broad effects on global growth and sovereign bond yields. Policymakers said interconnected vulnerabilities in the financial system are rising and the likelihood of simultaneous shocks has increased. The Bank flagged the multi-trillion-dollar AI market as a major risk and cited a renewed escalation in the Middle East, which could trigger a longer-lasting negative supply shock and raise sovereign debt risk. 1. Record High Adoption Rate: Statistics show that the proportion of US companies using paid GPU infrastructure for software spending has risen to approximately 10%, up from less than 4% two years ago. Model services and inference (the computing power needed to run AI models and process AI requests) contributed the main increase, with the proportion of companies using these services rising from 2.4% to 8.7%. 2. Highly Concentrated Spending: The top 10% of companies account for 99.5% of spending on model services, 99.0% on emerging cloud services (neocloud), 95.7% on cloud computing, and 95.6% on OpenAI and Anthropic. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is relatively dispersed, with the top 10% accounting for 84.2%. 3. Key Conclusion: AI adoption is broadening, but spending remains highly concentrated in leading companies.
