At a Sept. 30 press briefing, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council,
citing CHINA's Sept. 24 talks with U.S. President Trump, said the Taiwan issue
is the most important in China‑U.S. relations. Spokesperson Zhang Han said
"Taiwan independence" and cross‑strait peace and stability cannot coexist;
preserving that peace and stability is the largest common ground and essential
to a constructive strategic‑stability relationship. The office urged the U.S. to
adhere to the One‑China principle and the three Joint Communiqués, maintain
opposition to "Taiwan independence", handle the Taiwan issue with extreme
caution, avoid sending wrong signals to separatist forces, and act to safeguard
China‑U.S. constructive strategic stability.
