men arrested near RAF Fairford on suspicion of violating the UK Explosive
Substances Act and of preparing terrorist acts have been released on bail after
military and forensic teams found no explosive devices in the vehicle. Police
declared a major incident on Sept 27 after residents reported a suspicious
vehicle; the army explosive‑ordinance disposal team attended, five men were
arrested and more than 80 homes were evacuated. RAF Fairford, while on UK soil,
has long been used by US forces and has been authorized for use in strikes on
Iran.
