Sept. 28, 2026 — The inaugural meeting of the China-Canada Economic and Trade
Joint Committee investment working group was held in Ottawa, co-chaired by
China’s chief trade negotiator and vice minister of commerce Li Chenggang and
Canada’s deputy minister of international trade. Officials discussed enhancing
investment-policy communication, improving the investment environment and
expanding two-way investment. Li said the leaders’ January summit provided
strategic guidance for bilateral ties and pledged China would work with Canada
to create a fair, open, transparent, non-discriminatory and predictable business
environment to advance new investment cooperation outcomes.
