Singapore will introduce the world's first green aviation fuel surcharge on outbound flights, imposing an additional SGD1 to SGD41.60 per ticket depending on cabin and destination. The levy applies to tickets purchased from Thursday for departures on or after Jan 1 next year and excludes transit passengers. Proceeds will fund increased use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to cut the aviation sector's climate impact. The fee comes as airlines face higher jet-fuel costs after the Iran war; IATA said in June that ticket prices "will inevitably have to rise."
