UN spokesperson Dujarric said on Oct. 1 the situation around the Strait of
Hormuz is worrying and US‑Iran diplomatic contacts have been relatively quiet.
The UN urged both sides to pursue talks under mediation by Qatar and Pakistan.
US officials said on Sept. 30 that Sept. 28 negotiations had stalled and that US
Secretary of State Rubio asked the Iranian delegation attending the UN General
Assembly to leave the United States immediately. Dujarric said the UN does not
impose a uniform departure deadline after the General Assembly and that
diplomats with UN business should be permitted to remain to carry out that work.
