Brazil’s Attorney General Jorge Messias on Oct. 1 asked federal police and the The federal prosecutor’s office to investigate a Guardian report that the U.S. government allegedly provided $1m to fund civil groups campaigning against the Supreme Federal Court for 'judicial overreach' and 'censorship'. Messias called the allegations extremely serious amid a critical election phase and said foreign political forces must not be allowed to interfere with Brazilian institutions or affect voters’ choices.
