NHK reported on Oct 2 that from Oct 19 the Japan Self-Defense Forces and US military will conduct a large-scale joint live-fire exercise. The US Naval/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) is planned to be deployed to Yonaguni Island, and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force will deploy land-based shore-to-ship missiles with ranges of several hundred km; both would be first-time deployments to Yonaguni.
