Toshiba plans to double hard-disk drive (HDD) production capacity by fiscal
2027, investing about JPY60 billion (roughly $380m) to expand manufacturing in
the Philippines, Nikkei reported. The expansion is Toshiba’s first major HDD
investment in years and targets boosting its capacity-based market share from
just above 10% to about 30% over the medium term. Seagate Technology shares
opened down about 12.4% and Western Digital fell about 11% on the report, though
both still retain large YTD gains of roughly 200% and 140%, respectively.
