South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said on the 5th a final investigation found the DMZ explosion was caused by resin anti‑personnel mines emplaced by North Korea south of the Military Demarcation Line and demanded Pyongyang apologise and immediately remove the mines. Vice chief Kwon Dae‑won said South Korean forces and the United Nations Command conducted a joint on‑site probe from Sept. 26-29 and again discovered North Korean‑planted resin anti‑personnel mines near the blast site. The blast occurred Sept. 21 in a South Korean non‑military area near the MDL while troops of the 25th Division were on duty; three soldiers were wounded, two seriously.
