Bain's baseline scenario projects that global data center IT capacity will increase from 79.2GW in 2025 to 228GW in 2030, a net increase of approximately 149GW. Annual new capacity is projected to rise from 20GW in 2026 to 36GW in 2029-2030, indicating that the peak of physical expansion is not expected to have occurred in the last two years. During the same period, electricity consumption is projected to increase from 388TWh to 1228TWh, and GPU and custom ASIC shipments are expected to rise from 3.9 million units to 38.6 million units. This forecast further illustrates that demand for power, cooling, networking, and data center construction continues to accelerate.
