Thessaloniki, northern Greece, Oct 6 — During expansion works at Thessaloniki
port, staff discovered about 1,000 World War II-era bombs on the seabed while
surveying the area around berth 6. Estimated total weight is 15,000–20,000
tons. The port authority has asked relevant agencies to remove the ordnance.
Local reports say the munitions may have been abandoned by German forces during
their 1944 withdrawal.
