Jabal Habashi is a key mountain range on the western front of Taiz province in Yemen, overlooking a vital trade and supply route connecting Taiz, Balkh, and the Red Sea coast. One of its main battlegrounds, al-Anin, overlooks the Ramada highway between Taiz and Balkh. This route has historically been a crucial supply corridor through western Taiz, making control of the surrounding high ground militarily significant. Mountain warfare also makes capturing and holding territory exceptionally difficult. The high ground offers unobstructed views, facilitating defense; while narrow roads and rugged terrain slow the advance and make supply lines vulnerable to attack.
(Note: Turkey's Anadolu Agency previously reported that Yemeni government forces claimed to have captured the highest peak in the Jabal Habashi mountain range in Taiz province.)
